Remembrance is a special time of the year in terms of marking the contributions and sacrifices of generations gone before.
This year, in my first headship, it struck me to be mindful about all that has gone before. We are all arriving from that other place, be it our history, our experiences, our emotions and our expectations.
As a team we all have different views. As a new Headteacher I’m regularly enquiring how can I develop commonly held vision and values for our community, whilst also remembering each one of us holds uniquely particular values dear. How can I look to the future, whilst acknowledging and valuing the journey to the present?
Previous generations of educators in schools did their best. We must not forget their contributions and efforts to make school and the world a better place for all our children.
Social norms, niceties and priorities may well have changed over the passage of time. However, that golden thread of our deeper hopes for the flourishing of our children has not.
So my thoughts this week are for those educators who have gone before us, made the world anew and kept the hope of a better world for our children alive.
Lest we forget…
